The Well Coffee House in Telluride, Colorado: More than Just Great Coffee
If you have followed me for a while, you know I love the little town of Telluride. I have been to almost every restaurant, bar, and coffee place in the town except for one: the Well Coffee. It’s a unique gem nestled downstairs inside the Alpine Chapel.
All I ever knew about the chapel was that I walked past it all the time while I was in Telluride and that they served free Thanksgiving meals. Well, a couple of years ago, they decided to open a coffee shop, offering a one-of-a-kind local experience!
In full transparency, I do not promote one religion over another. I have never written anything related to religion because, honestly, I do not like talking about religion. This post serves, just like other posts, as a list of places I really loved while traveling, and I will explain to you why I adore this place.
If you already know this is your typical coffee house, let me tell you a few other things. The coffee is 100% free. Yes, you read that correctly. It is free. However, you can donate in the little box where you order your coffee if you choose.
If you donate, that money will not go to the church but will instead be given directly to “The Living Water Project.” This project digs wells in countries where clean drinking water is not accessible, making a significant difference in people's lives. This is why I adore this place (besides the rustic vibe with an oversized couch and a place to hold meetings if needed). If you have followed me for a while, you know I am a big believer in leaving no trace and being a good steward of traveling and the outdoors. Give back/pay it forward at any possible time (see my post about Hell’s Revenge in Moab).
The baristas, who are the church's four pastors, create a warm and welcoming atmosphere. They do not preach or shove their beliefs down anyone’s throats. Instead, they took the time to talk to me and get to know who I was, Wanderingbel, and all the places I had been to. They showed genuine curiosity.
To be honest, this is rare nowadays unless you travel. They didn’t know or care if I practiced the same faith as them, which meant a lot to me since I had faced judgment from other churches. Their mission, as they say, is to show love and friendship. My friend, you will feel that from them for sure.
There are not too many places in Telluride where you can sit, read, or work on your computer in quiet while supporting a great cause. I am glad that they opened a small coffee shop to bring people together and support other people around the world. They are really true to their slogan: “more than just great coffee.”
The Well Coffee House is open Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 8 a.m. until 12 p.m. with free wi-fi! For more information on The Well Coffee House, please visit their website. Come in, grab a coffee, make a friend, get some work done, and support a good cause!
Thank you, Well Coffee House, for your coffee, your support for others, and your support/love for Wanderingbel. I can’t wait to visit you next time!
