Peaks Spa in Telluride, Colorado: Self-Care You Didn't Know You Needed

I have been visiting Telluride, Colorado, for the past 10 years but never went to Peaks Spa until this trip. This visit differed from my previous ones, in which I tried to ski every day, hike, and stay active.

This time, I hardly did anything because I felt overworked and run down. My body was telling me—well, yelling at me—that I needed a day of self-care, which is what led me to Peaks Spa.

The Spa at the Peaks Resort

You’ll find this resort in Mountain Village, a 12-minute gondola ride or 20-minute drive from Telluride. It is the largest spa in Colorado. Here, you can spend the entire day enjoying the views of the 14,000-foot Rocky Mountain peaks while hanging out in the Roman tubs, hot tubs, and heated indoor and outdoor pools large enough to do laps around. Or maybe, if you want to feel like a kid again, you can slide down the water slide.

If soaking in warm water isn’t your jam, you can also enjoy two dry saunas and two eucalyptus steam rooms. Not only that, but they also have an area for meditation, four gym areas, multiple yoga and Pilates rooms, and group fitness.

A full-day pass to the spa costs a mere $60, and you can stay from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. They also have services like massages, facials, and hair and nail appointments, and if you book them, you get a free day spa pass. It's a steal for the experience you get!

How to Spend Your Spa Day

Here are two ways for you to maximize your experience. The first option is for people who have 4-5 hours at the spa; this is what my friend and I did.

  • Do the Roman bath first to relax your muscles for 20 minutes.

  • Then go to the steam room like we did. It was perfect since I had been fighting a cold for almost four weeks.

  • Go downstairs to check out the multi-pools. There are two pools: one for laps and one for light swimming which includes a slide and opens up into an outdoor pool!

  • I highly recommend channeling your inner kid and sliding down the water slide. It's honestly one of the highlights of the afternoon.

  • After sliding into the pool, I suggest you go under the window to the other side, leading to an outdoor heated pool with stunning views of the Rockies.

  • After 30 minutes of playing and swimming, head to the outdoor hot tub.

  • I suggest hanging out in the steam room downstairs, which is better than the one upstairs.

  • Afterward, head back inside to enjoy complimentary tea and hang out in their lounge.

  • If you are there at sunset, head to the oversized couch beside the 50-foot windows. Those windows offer breathtaking views of the Rockies. Enjoy your tea as you watch the sky turn shades of pink, red, and orange. This was the number one highlight of the night, a view that will leave you in awe.

  • Take one last swim in the indoor and outdoor pool. Though it might be cold, it does feel amazing, plus you get to see the stars!

  • To warm back up, head back to the steam room. One tip for the steam room is to take advantage of the shower inside. Turn the shower to the coldest setting and have yourself a little cold plunge as you ingest the eucalyptus steam.

Now, if you have a whole day (8-12 hours), I suggest doing what my friend and I did, but add the following tips below!

  • Wake up and have some breakfast wherever you are staying.

  • Pack your bag with extra clothes, a book or two, your laptop, and maybe a lunch.

  • Get to the spa around 9 a.m. or 10 a.m. and get your sandals and comfy robe from the desk.

  • See what I did above.

  • Then, come inside and either enjoy the lunch you brought with you in their amazing lounge area, watch people ski, read a book, get some work done, or enjoy the views of the mountains.

  • Another option is to enjoy lunch upstairs at Altezza or even leave the spa and enjoy lunch in Mountain Village.

  • After lunch, repeat the cycle, or if you decide to get a service, head to your appointment.

  • Once you have done your service or repeated the cycle, take a break in the lounge again with their free tea or infused water with fruit. Or…

  • Head upstairs to their meditation area in their super comfy chairs. Or…

  • Go to the gym!

  • Then, repeat the cycle again and enjoy dinner at the spa.

After a day—or even just half a day—at the spa, I have never felt better. I told my friend that we need to make this a regular thing whenever I return. For just $60 for an entire day, it’s an incredible deal, especially if you're on a budget.

If you're looking to rejuvenate your body from skiing, snowboarding, or just from life in general, I highly recommend visiting here. For once, my body and mind were finally in sync, which is quite a feat considering I live and work in Washington, D.C.

Thank you, Peaks Spa!

If you’ve been here or plan to go soon, let me know in the comments! I’d love to hear about your experiences, and be sure to tell me which parts of the spa you enjoyed the most!
