Number One Coffee Place to Visit in KeyWest, Florida
If you have already read my posts Top 5 Fun Things to Do in the Florida Keys and Top 6 Places to Eat and Drink in Key West, you know that I spent much of my time indoors because of the tropical depression. I guess Mother Nature was giving me a chance to stumble upon this special coffee place, Doing Work.
After spending 5-plus hours here, I fell in love with this coffee shop because of my conversations with the owners, Dan and Holly. I came back three days in a row, not only for their fantastic coffee and food—which I will get to—but because they care about their social impact on the world.
A remarkable fact about them is that they are the southernmost coffee roaster in the United States!
Social Impact
If you have followed me for a while, you know I’m a big lover of the outdoors, and I always remind people of our impact when hiking, camping, and traveling.
Dan and Holly share the same beliefs as I do. They told me that all the coffee they sell comes from 15 farms worldwide that use sustainable and ethical principles, such as using organic fertilizers, conserving water, and planting trees to preserve forests and natural habitats. Also, these farmers, as well as Doing Work, pride themselves on giving back to the local communities in many ways, such as investing in the education and health of their workers.
Another thing I really like about them is that all their products, cups, straws, packaging, food, and drinks—everything they serve—are all plant-based and biodegradable, which means less trash ending up in the oceans! Which is something near to my heart.
Food and Coffee
During my first visit, I had their cherry wood smoked rye whiskey-barrel-aged coffee, which was aged between 6 and 8 months. The owner warned me it had a unique taste and asked if I needed to do work since it had a high caffeine rate. It’s funny he asked since I had a lot of writing to do for Wanderingbel, and damn, this coffee helped—a little too much!
So, I ordered a second coffee with almond milk and blew through all the tasks I wanted to do in a short few hours.
I also had their handmade breakfast egg bites, which were my breakfast for the three days I was there. All of Doing Work’s cookies and food are handmade; they use good ingredients.
Also, if you fall in love with their coffee like I did, you can head over to their website to order, and they will ship it to you! This is really great because I really love the Cherry wood smoked rye, and I can get it without jumping on a plane!
When visiting Key West, I hope you support this local business. Your support not only helps them thrive but also contributes to the sustainability and ethical practices they stand for.
